The Writing Concentration
In addition to the 6 hours of core coursework (ENGL 287 and 288) required of all English majors, students pursuing the writing concentration will complete at least 30 hours of coursework in English at the 300-500-level, distributed as follows:
- Two courses (6 hours) in pre-1800 literature, chosen from ENGL 380-382, 400-410, 415, 419 (depending on content), 420, and 429 (depending on content)
- Two courses (6 hours) in post-1800 literature, chosen from ENGL 383-386, 411-414, 416 and 419 (depending on content), 421-428, and 429 (depending on content)
- ENGL 360 and ENGL 397 (6 hours)
- Two creative writing/professional writing courses chosen from ENGL 460, 462-470 (6 hours)
- Once creative writing/professional writing course from ENGL 491-494 (3 hours)
- One additional ENGL course numbered 300 or above (3 hours).
