Geographic Information Science has been an integral part of the curricula and research on our campus since the late 1970s. Today over 100 active faculty and staff, as well as hundreds of students, are involved in GIScience activities within the colleges, departments and research institutes at Carolina. The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science is composed of research instutitions of higher education and their supporters. Its mission is to: 1)
to serve as an effective, unified voice for the geographic information science research community,
2) To foster multidisciplinary research and education and
3) to promote the informed and responsible use of geographic information science and geographic analysis for the benefit of society.
Each UCGIS member institution designates two delegates to represent the University to the UCGIS. Our delegates are:
