GIScience facilities at the University of South Carolina benefit from a site license for ESRI GIS products funded through campus research funds. Thus, GIS software and support are available throughout the Columbia campus. ESRI applications can be found in a number of open classrooms and labs as well as many research labs. In addition to ESRI products, some facilities make use of Intergraph, ERDAS, and ENVI applications. The University's site license with Oracle enables those who need enterprise relational database technology to couple its functionality with the ESRI product suite.
Facilities
Public access facilities for ESRI GIS products can be found in Gambrell Hall, Callcott Building, the Norman J. Arnold School of Public Health, Sumwalt Engineering, Thomas Cooper Library, and Swearingen Engineering.
Resources - Web Servers & Applications
The Earth Sciences and Resources Institute, the Geography Department, Contractual Services-Digital Mapping and the Advanced Solutions Group all run active web servers that host various GIS applications.
Resources - Data Servers
The Department of Geography's GISciences Research Laboratory maintains a web-accessible GIS data site. The server functions as a clearinghouse for various state agency data holdings as well as links to a number of other spatial data servers throughout the U.S. and the world. Several other campus units maintain digital data holdings within their field(s) of interest, not available on the campus data server.
