Campuswide funding of a GIS software license and support infrastructure has been instrumental in the award of over $4.5 million dollars in research awards during the 2007-08 academic year. This figure reflects only the portion of grants that were associated with the use of GIScience technologies.

University researchers have partnered with various branches of Federal Government (eg. NASA, NOAA, US Fish & Wildlife), as well as with local and state governmental entities, school districts, and a number of major private companies as part of the University's teaching, research and service mission.
