Facilities Community Garden Coming Soon
by Thomas Knowles, USC Facilities
Plans are underway to create a community garden for all interested gardeners in facilities. Construction will begin in November and space will available to interested facilities staff who wish to plant, tend and grow their own edibles right outside our offices.
The garden will be located in the current landscaped area outside the front door of 743 Greene Street. Raised boxes and plots will be constructed, soil added, and beds should be ready for planting after we return from the holiday break. For those folks who may doubt whether or not they have a green thumb, training will be offered in January so there is no excuse! Interested staff should be fully committed to planting, maintaining and harvesting their crop on a regular schedule.
All garden plots will be assigned to either an individual or group of employees who wish to grow their own food. Each assigned “plot owner(s)” will be responsible for maintaining their area and keeping the plots orderly and productive. Our Department’s Community Garden will be the first of its kind on campus so let’s show everyone how it’s done. This could be a great way to eat healthier and save a few bucks at the grocery store!
