Graduate Students Admissions

The History Department reviews applications only once each year. The Graduate School handles the intake of applications. Applicants who wish to check on the status of a file should use the online tracking system or contact the Graduate School, not the department.

Application Procedures

The Graduate School online application site describes the procedures for application, including the mechanics for submission of transcripts, reporting of GRE scores, and processing of letters of recommendation. The Graduate School site also instructs applicants to include supporting documents as required by the department. For the History Department, two supporting documents must be included in the application envelope sent to the Graduate School: (1) a statement of no more than 500 words describing the applicant’s plans for graduate study and (2) a sample of the applicant’s written academic work.

Deadlines

The absolute final date for the receipt of complete applications is January 5, 2006. Applicants interested in a Graduate School fellowship, however, should apply by early December, as the department must nominate candidates for these fellowships by mid-January.
