History of Islamic World. As part of the University of South Carolina’s effort to build its Islamic Cultures Study Program, the Department of History seeks applicants for a new Assistant or Associate level professorship in the history of the Islamic world. Region and chronological specialization open, except for South and Southeast Asia and Modern Arab world. While candidates in all historical subfields will be considered, the department has special interest in candidates who situate their work in broad thematic areas such as labor/economic development, ethnic/national identity, civil/human rights, religion, gender, or environmental history. Candidates should be prepared to teach an introductory Survey of Islamic Civilization as well as other undergraduate courses in their specialty and to play an active role in the graduate program. Ph.D. required by 15 August 2008. Full consideration will be given to applications received by 15 October 2007.
