France since 1815, and business history. His graduate courses include reading
seminars on nineteenth century Europe, modern France, and economic development.
His publications include various articles on French political and business history
and a book, Tariff Reform in France, 1860-1900: The Politics of Economic Interest.
A second book, The Emergence of Modern Business Enterprise in France, 1800-1930,
will be published by Harvard University Press in the fall of 2005.
Current Activities:
While shepherding The Emergence of Modern Business through the publishing process
this year, I am gathering materials for a sequel that will take the story of French
business from the 1930s to the present. A longer term project is a study of how
world economic and business structures have changed since World War II.”
