University of South Carolina Public History Reunion and Conference

October 26-28, 2001

Alumni, students and interested friends of the USC Public History Program are invited to attend Historians with an Edge: Technology in Public History in celebration of 25 years of the Public History Program at USC. Founded in 1976, the Public History Program at the University of South Carolina is one of the oldest and largest public history programs in the United States. This 25^th anniversary celebration combines a conference on the future of public history emphasizing the role of technology with opportunities for alumni and students to socialize and reminisce about their times at USC.

Friday, October 26

Saturday, October 27 (the following events will take place at the S.C. Department of Archives and History, 8301 Parklane Road, unless otherwise noted)

9:00-10:45 a.m. Session: Past to Future of Public History Past and Present Faculty: Constance Schulz, Michael Scardaville, Marcia Synnott, Robert Weyeneth, Katherine Grier.

11:00a.m.-12:00p.m. Keynote address: Donald Ritchie, U.S. Senate Historical Office

12:00-1:30 p.m. Lunch Tour of the S.C. Department of Archives and History Center (optional)

1:30-2:45 p.m. Session: Technology in the field (all speakers are graduates of USC's Program) Archives: Whitney Miller, Michigan State University Historic Preservation: Daniel Vivian, S.C. Department of Archives & History Museums: Heather Erskine, United States Holocaust Museum

3:30-5:30 p.m. Tour: South Carolina State House or Columbia Museum of Art (choose one)

6:30 p.m. until ? BBQ Dinner and Remember When? Location: Big Apple Master of Ceremonies: Ray Sigmon, S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Come prepared to share your amusing stories!

Sunday, October 28
