Student Exchange

The University of South Carolina-University of Warwick Exchange has been in continuous existence since 1966. It is the oldest and one of the most prestigious exchange programs at the University of South Carolina. Former Exchange Scholars have benefited from a year abroad at what is now the UK's second highest-ranked History Department. Exchange Scholars return to USC with heightened academic skills and an appreciation of what it is like to live and work in a different culture.

Every year, USC's Department of History sends up to four students to the University of Warwick, England. History Majors, Minors, and Cognates are eligible to participate in the Exchange and students are selected on a competitive basis. Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors are all eligible to participate. Normally, three, year-long ten credit courses are taken at Warwick, at least one of which must be in history. While final grades are reported to USC, only the credit hours are entered on the student's transcript.

Students selected for the fellowship pay their regular tuition fees, plus a housing charge to USC. The students who come to USC from Warwick pay the same costs. It normally costs little more to attend Warwick than it is does to attend USC. The USC History Department defrays up to $1000 as part of the round trip expense of all students completing the year's study.
