African Studies is Hiring
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA
POLICY SCIENCES: AFRICA
The Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior at the University of South Carolina’s Arnold School of Public Health invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position for scholars interested in applying the policy sciences to advance the health of people in Africa. Several faculty members in the department conduct policy research, and the department seeks to amplify this work with this scholar. This scholar will also strengthen the department’s program in global health and the university’s African Studies Program.
This position is part of a cluster hire in African Studies created under the University’s innovative Faculty Excellence Initiative to establish a cluster of scholars who collaborate with one another and with current faculty in interdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach. The two other positions in the cluster are for scholars interested in comparative political development (Department of Political Science) and comparative and international education and educational leadership (Department of Educational Leadership and Policies) in sub-Saharan Africa.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of, or clear potential for, scholarly research, successful grant writing, and teaching excellence. He/she will be expected to pursue external funding for his/her program of research and to collaborate with existing research programs within the department and school. Qualifications include an earned doctorate in policy sciences, social policy, health policy, public health, or related behavioral/social science discipline with a focus in policy and interest in Africa.
This recruitment is part of unprecedented growth at USC, with over 250 new faculty positions being created across the University, and development of a new research campus. The school opened a new 104,860-square-foot state-of-the-art building for research and instruction in spring 2006. The department is interdisciplinary, collaborative, energetic, and forward-looking.
