Student Fellowships

The Walker Institute sponsors three competitive study/ travel grants for students currently enrolled at USC and engaged in appropriate areas of international research and study.  Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply as long as the project or program of study demonstrates an understanding of contemporary international life and culture. The grants can support such activities as advanced language study, research using local language source materials and others. Short-term reserch grants and travel, Maymester courses, and conference participation cannot be supported.

International Experience Award Apply Now

  • Purpose – Fund student study and research into international and cross cultural issues. Awards will most commonly fund international travel but applicants could make a case for other uses such as summer language institutes for example.
  • Eligibility – Currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students with well-formed study abroad or research proposals are eligible to apply.
  • Award – Award amounts up to $1,000.
  • Deadline - September 30th for research in Spring 2012.
  • Deadline - March 2nd for research in Summer 2012, Fall 2012, and Academic Year 2012-13.

Ceny Walker Undergraduate Fellowship Apply Now

  • Purpose – To support participation in summer or semester-long advanced language study programs or students conducting structured term long research abroad (e.g. the Magellen Program, etc.).
  • Eligibility - Exceptionally well qualified undergraduate students with well formed programs for overseas study and research are encouraged to apply.
  • Award – Award amounts up to $2,500.
  • Deadline - September 30th for research in Spring 2012.
  • Deadline - March 2nd for research in Summer 2012, Fall 2012, and Academic Year 2012-13.

Ceny Walker Graduate Research Fellowship Apply Now

  • Purpose – To provide supplemental support to exceptionally well qualified graduate students with well constructed international study or research proposals related to his or her thesis or dissertation.  Applicants may apply to support advanced foreign language study or conduct international studies scholarship and research using local language resources.
  • Eligibility – All currently enrolled graduate students proposing appropriate international research are encouraged to apply.
  • Award – Award amounts up to $3,000.
  • Deadline - September 30th for research in Spring 2012.
  • Deadline - March 2nd for research in Summer 2012, Fall 2012, and Academic Year 2012-13.
