The interdisciplinary minor in Russian and Eurasian Studies offers an area-studies focus on the region extending from Central Europe, through Russia and the Caucasus, to Central and Northern Asia. The minor requires a minimum of 18 credit hours, which does not include the language prerequisite. Coursework in at least three disciplines is required for the minor. In addition to the traditional area study disciplines of Geography, History, International Studies, and Languages/Literatures/Cultures, students are encouraged to explore coursework or independent study options with faculty in the Sciences, Business, Music, Art, Journalism, and other departments and schools; if not included in the list below, appropriate courses will be approved for inclusion in the minor by the RES Director.

Prerequisite: Two years of college-level study (or equivalent level of mastery) of Russian or one of the other languages of the region. The prerequisite may be satisfied by successful completion of RUSS 202 or a placement examination arranged with the RES Director.

Students whose primary focus is a country other than Russia may petition the RES Director to substitute a similar survey course on another region for one of these two required courses.
