Professor Kirk Randazzo, new faculty member in Political Science and specialist in law and judicial politics, explored the politically charged legal controversies surrounding the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay in “Balancing Liberty and Security at Guantánamo.”

Dr. Shelley Rigger, Brown Professor of East Asian Politics at Davidson College and leading expert on the politics and government of both Mainland China and the Republic of China on Taiwan, discussed how and how well Beijing met two monumental challenges (responding to a devastating earthquake and hosting the Summer Olympics) during the summer of 2008.

John McDermott, Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of South Carolina, will discuss the current state of the world economy, the fate of the American economy, and expectations about the future of the economy.
