About ISS
The mission of the Institute for Southern Studies is to promote and foster the study of the American South. The Institute facilitates the most advantageous use of the outstanding research resources at the University of South Carolina, which include the rich collections of the South Caroliniana Library, Thomas Cooper Library and the McKissick Museum. The Institute provides ready access to other important research facilities such as the state archives and to a strategic concentration of outstanding faculty specializing in the study of the South. The ISS interdisciplinary academic program connects undergraduates to these resources, and a variety of ISS scholarly initiatives connect the university to the international research community focused on the South.
