	Events for Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art Location: McKissick Museum, University of South Carolina, Columbia Contact: Ja-Nae Epps, (803) 777-7251 Saturday, February 13, 2010; 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Opening Day 10:30-11:45 Tour of the exhibition with basket maker Nakia Wigfall and curator Dale Rosengarten. 12:00-1:00 Talk by Peter H. Wood of Duke University, author of Black Majority as well as Strange New Land and the textbook Created Equal. 1:00 – 3:00 Special viewing of the acclaimed new film Grass Roots: The Enduring Art of the Lowcountry Basket, directed by Dana Sardet. 3:00-3:45 Tour of the exhibition basket maker Nakia Wigfall and curator Dale Rosengarten. Saturday, April 17, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm *Basket Day* Basket makers from the Charleston area demonstrating and selling handcrafted baskets on the historic USC Horseshoe. Sweet Grass Sundays February 21, March 21, April 18, 2010; 1:00 – 4:00 pm The museum is open extended hours for an additional opportunity to experience Grass Roots
