The anthropology of science has had a peculiar experience with the
science wars of the past ten years. To understand that experience, we
need to consider the history and variety of ethnographic studies of
scientific thought. From that exercise, we can derive some insights into
the cultural qualities of science and their implications for
anthropological thought.
