The concept of definability of physical fields in a set-theoretical
foundation will be introduced. A set theory will be proposed in which we
get just enough mathematics to produce a nonlinear sigma model.
Quantization of the model will then be derived from a null postulate and
shown to be necessary and sufficient for definability in the theory.
Examples of the relevance to physics and philosophy of science will be
presented.
