SOME ISSUES REGARDING DEFINITIONS IN MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS

Adonai Sant'Anna
Department of Mathematics
Federal University of Paraná, Brazil

April 12, 2005
Tuesday, 12:30pm-2:00pm
Sumwalt College, Room 102

We will make a brief review of some theories of definition in physics and mathematics, with special emphasis on applications and open problems. From the formal point of view, we show, for example, that there are many superfluous concepts in most of the standard physical and mathematical theories. We intend to make a critical analysis about this and suggest some ideas for future research.
