Seminar-series:
Models of Reason in Contemporary Culture

 
The College of Liberal Arts is pleased to announce the visit of Charles Taylor, one of the preeminent philosophers in the world, to the University of South Carolina. His work touches all of the disciplines in the College. Some of his most important books include: Human Agency and Language, Sources of the Self, and Multiculturalism and the Politics of Recogniton.
 
Professor Taylor will conduct a faculty seminar on October 25, 26, and 27 (1999) from 3:30-6:00pm in Gambrell 429 and give a public lecture on October 27 at 8:00pm in Gambrell 153. The subject for the seminar will be models of reason in contemporary culture. The title of the lecture will be "Democracy and Exclusion."
 
There will be a packet of readings that participants in the seminar should obtain and read in advance. In order to sign up for the seminar, please contact Meili Steele (Department of English; Program in Comparative Literature) or Chris Tollefsen (Department of Philosophy) by October 1.
