Jihyun Kim was born and raised in Seoul, Korea. Before coming to the United States, she attended Hong-Ik University in Korea, studying oceanography and naval architecture. She received her undergraduate degree in international studies/ Asian studies from the Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA., and an MA in international affairs/ comparative regional studies from the American University in Washington, D.C. She is currently a Ph D. student in political science concentrating international relations and comparative politics. Her research interests include regional integration, U.S. foreign policy in East Asia, and security on the Korean peninsula.
