Mekell Mikell is a Ph.D. student.  Mekell is from Martinez, GA.  She received a B.A. in broadcast news with a minor in political science from the University of Georgia.  While at UGA, she served as a news stringer for the local National Public Radio affiliate.  She was also a member of the historic Demosthenian Literary Society.  After graduating from college, Mekell worked as a news producer for a commercial television station for several years.  Her two main areas of study as a political science student at the University of South Carolina are international relations and comparative politics.
