Graduate School Requirements
for Graduation
- Know the requirements of your department (link)
- Monitor your progress (required coursework and grades — Graduate School requires grades of 3.0 or higher; Department of Religious Studies requires grades of 3.5 or higher for a course to count toward your degree.)
- Be aware of Graduate school deadlines (Grad School Calendar)
- Graduation Application deadline
- Defense deadline
- Thesis deadline
- Accept responsibility for your own degree and ask questions if you don't know
- Ask for copies of all paperwork sent to the Graduate School as well as other paperwork relevant to your degree progress and keep them in your own personal file for future reference
- Know your Graduate School Coordinator (Kim Weston - 777-3001)
- File your Program of Study form with the Graduate School by the end of your second semester. You need to file a Program Adjustment form if you make any changes to your program of study.
- File Application for Graduation (see deadlines)
- Register for at least 1 hour of 799 (thesis preparation) during the semester you defend and submit your thesis
- Defend Thesis and pass Comprehensive Exams (valid for 2 years)
- Submit your thesis for preliminary check with Graduate School Coordinator (appointment required)
- Submit final copy of thesis, with required signatures, for binding (appointment required)
- Minimum of three signed copies must be turned in to the Graduate School.
- Copies should be made before getting signatures of thesis committee; all copies must have orginal signatures
- Original must be printed on 50 or 100% rag paper and will be placed in the Caroliniana Library
- Two copies will go to Thomas Cooper Library and the department, respectively.
- If students want any more bound copies for themselves, they must submit those copies also and pay a fee for the additional copies.
