The Bicentennial Year, 2001, marks the fifty-second anniversary of the establishment of this department in 1949 by now distinguished emeritus professor Lauren E. Brubaker. 2001 marks the thirty-third anniversary of the establishment of the Bachelor's degree in religious studies in 1968, and the thirteenth anniversary of the Master's degree in 1988.
