Students working in the areas of Biblical and Near Eastern Studies and Theology and Religious Thought are strongly encouraged to register for program-appropriate courses at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, and to become acquainted with faculty members at the Seminary working in relevant areas. A catalog for the Seminary is held in the Departmental Library, and another copy in the office of the Director of Graduate Studies
In order to register for courses at the Seminary, students must pay the Seminary's Lutheran tuition rate and provide the Seminary Registrar with a Seminary registration form plus a letter from the Director of Graduate Studies. You may obtain both of these by contacting the Director of Graduate Studies, Kevin Lewis. If funds become available to offset the cost of studies at the Seminary, students will be so advised.
Graduate Assistants who enroll in Seminary courses must have their registration verified in order to count the Seminary enrollment toward eligibility requirements for Graduate Assistants (see Graduate Student Handbook III.B). Please bring a photocopy of the approved Seminary registration form to the Director of Graduate Studies, requesting a letter for the Graduate School. When this letter has been prepared, it should be hand carried to the Graduate School in the Byrnes Office building.
