Conservation
SCIAA provides expertise, council, and advice to the profession and the public through the Conservation Division. The Conservator maintains a 6,000 square foot conservation laboratory that engages in the preservation, stabilization, conservation, and restoration of archaeological metals, ceramics, glass, wood, and other organics. A 6,000 gallon treatment tank is located on site and used for large scale treatment of ships and other wooden artifacts. In addition, the Conservator represents the interests of the state with other agencies and the public; sets and enforces conservation policy; and has final say over the conservation of the state collection.
