Research

The Research Division is a unit within SCIAA whose purpose is to collect together staff who are engaged in research on a full time basis or who administer or serve in a support role for a research program. The primary activity of the Division is that of long term, problem-oriented research conducted primarily within South Carolina and adjacent regions. Some of the research programs include 16th Century Colonial, focusing on the Spanish and French site of Santa Elena/Charlesfort, the Contact Period (Protohistoric) Period, the Private Artifact Collections Survey, the Paleoindian Lanceolate Point Mapping Survey, and the Allendale Paleoindian Expedition.
