Part 2: Finding your way...

Whether you are traveling from the north or south, take I-95 until you reach South Carolina Exit 33. This will take you to Route 21 South. Take 21 South toward Beaufort and continue to Route 280 (You will pass the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort along the way). Take a right turn onto 280 shortly after passing the Marine Corps Air Station and continue traveling for approximately 6 miles. Route 280 eventually turns into Route 802. You will see a sign for Parris Island. The off-ramp to Parris Island is on the right side of the road, just before a large bridge.

Upon arriving at Parris Island's Main (and only) Gate, visitors will be given a 24-hour pass and allowed on base.

Once you get on base, follow the signs to the Parris Island Golf Course. (Turn right at the Commissary, take a left at the first fork, then follow the road to the Golf Course clubhouse.) Park in the Golf Course parking lot and walk the rest of the way to the site of Fort San Marcos and Charlesfort!

Parris Island is open to all visitors daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Visitors who wish to come on base between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. must have a military sponsor on base, i.e. the person you wish to visit must notify the Marines at the gate of your arrival.
