Spring 2008 Upcoming Shows
Translations in 10: Breaking out of the Box
Feb 1 - Feb 3
(8pm, Feb 1 & 2; 3pm, Feb 3)
Under the direction of USC graduate student Sandra Dietel, Translations in 10: Breaking Out of the Box showcases five original ten-minute productions -- all conceived, written, designed and performed by groups of Midlands area high school students, with assistance from undergraduate Theatre majors. This program is a collaboration between Richland One Theatre teachers and students and the University's Department of Theatre and Dance.
Mr. Marmalade By Noah Haidle
February 14 - 17 (all shows 8pm)
Student director Martha Hearn brings to the Lab stage Noah Haidle's edgy, hilarious and heartbreaking comedy, which takes a look at adult life through the eyes and mouths of babes. Four-year-old Lucy is dealing with a single-mother, babysitter and even imaginary friend
(Mr. Marmalade, a drug-addicted businessman) who are all virtually invisible, and is introduced to Larry, a five-year-old with issues that make her dilemmas seem like child's play.
A Tale Told By An Idiot (An Experiment)
April 3 - 6 (all shows 8pm)
Conceived and written by Professor and Director Robert Richmond. A theatrical experiment, a staged graphic novel... 20 undergrads devising a piece based from Shakespeare's Macbeth. It's Macbeth as remembered by the Gunpowder Plot conspirator Guy Fawkes. What went though his mind as he waited in a dark cellar to blow up the Houses of Parliament? How much of the play came back to haunt him? This production asks: how closely are Shakespeare’s famous play and this infamous suicide bomber entwined?
Audience discussions will be held after each performance.
