USC Professor's Play Garners Critical Acclaim
from Variety and The New York Times
USC Professor Nic Ularu recently reaped major critical praise during the February 2008 run of his original play The Cherry Orchard Sequel at the revered LaMaMa E.T.C. Theatre in New York City.
The New York Times raved that the work "is a sparkling surprise, helped along by fine performances all around."They soon followed up this review by naming the play as a Critic's Pick and improving the play's category from Off-Off-Broadway to Off-Broadway.
Variety had equally positive comments, summing up the play as "good, enigmatic storytelling."
Ularu's creation brings characters from the Chekhov original eighteen years forward, as they struggle with life admist the grand ideologies of the first Russian Revolution. Ularu wrote and directed the play, and collaborated with faculty and present and former students from the University of South Carolina to realize the production, including:
