Do you have experience working as an actor beyond college or university?

Do you want to focus for three years on honing your physical skills, vocal skills and technical skill?

Do you consider yourself seriously engaged in finding work as an actor?

Are you going to shape yourself into a consummate actor no matter what it takes?

Do you have something unique to contribute to the theatre?

Are you ready to experiment, challenge assumptions, explore new possibilities in the theatre?

Do you savor the intellectual challenge of acting?

Do you want to find greater freedom and daring in your body and in your imagination when you perform?

Do you have ambition and discipline to fulfill it?

Do you want to contribute to your community through theatre?

If the answer is yes we will be happy to interview you to discover if you have what it takes to be successful at the University of South Carolina—and beyond.

Ours is a rigourous three-year program progresses from the fundamentals to ever more exacting practice of craft and technique.

The fundamentals help you:
• Find what is genuine, authentic in your own life experience.
• Dissolve unnecessary tension and effort.
• Free the body and voice to expand your ability to express your imagination.
• Draw from your own life, your own feelings to bring life to your characters.

Collaboration and Teamwork
Theatre depends on team building, and collaboration.

Bridges to the Profession
• Guest directors come from companies like Aquila, Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare and Company, New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, and the Black Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
• Guest artists teach nearly every semester.
• Artistic directors and casting agents often audition students.
• Performance positions in professional theatres for two or three shows. your final semester.

Mentoring
Small class size (8 to 10 actors) and recruiting every other year guarantee an excellent advisor-student ratio.
A faculty committee guides you through one acting role each semester.

Practical Experience
Stage time is of the utmost importance. Perform at least one significant role each semester (after the first semester). Students are encouraged to pursue commercial and industrial film work.

Financial Support
All students accepted into the program are awarded an assistantship and waiver of tuition. Substantial training is provided for teaching assistantships for undergraduate acting, movement and voice courses.
