A new theatre company made up largely of USC Alums...
Texas Rep Announces First Season
Steve Fenley (MFA 2004) sent a letter from Houston saying:
Our
new theatre is under construction now and the response from
our community has been enthusiastic. We have several alums
that
will be appearing in our first season, including Michael
Kroeker, JP Driscoll, Jackie Coleman, Brian Schilb, Kay Allmand and,
of course, myself. The season will be directed entirely by Craig Miller and Jerry
Winters. We jokingly refer to The Texas Repertory
Theatre Co. as "Theatre USC Southwest."
The letter includes a beautiful four-color brochure annoucing
that their new theater building—not a recycled store front
or garage, but a purpose-built theater building!—will open
in February. The first season
offers Shakespeare, two American classics and one of the great
audience pleasers of the last 15 years: A
Midsummer Night's Dream, Our Town, Of Mice and Men and Forever
Plaid.
The Texas Rep motto is "Believe!" Their website (http://www.texreptheatre.org/)
presents their business plan, a document of unusual breadth and
thoughtfulness for so young a group. Of course, they need support
and if you'd like to help, check out their wish list at http://www.texreptheatre.org/wishlist.htm.
As
Craig Miller writes in the season brochure: "To believe—to have faith
in something bigger than yourself; to put your deepest dreams and
ultimate
desires
out
there
for everyone to see—you have to believe that they will come
true....Believe with us!"
