In-Service Opportunities
The South Carolina Geographic Alliance offers free workshops and in-service training for schools and school districts across the state. The SCGA needs your help in making the following opportunities available to you, your school, and your school district. We would like you to consider scheduling a workshop with us. While we have several areas of emphasis, we will also work to meet the needs of individual schools.
At all of our workshops teachers will receive lesson plans and classroom resources. Some of our workshop topics are as follows:
-
Geography Across the Curriculum:
Through demonstration of model lessons, teachers will be shown how to integrate geography content within language arts, math, science, and social studies curriculum. -
Geography and the Social Studies Standards:
Through the use of lesson demonstrations, we will model how to effectively teach the content standards and integrate the four strands of the Standards. -
Integrating Geography, Science and Math (IGSAM):
Designed for use in the third grade classroom, we will model teaching strategies and lessons using our IGSAM CD-ROM. -
South Carolina Interactive Geography (SCIG):
Designed for use in the eighth grade, we will demonstrate teaching strategies and lessons using our SCIG CD-ROM and Activity Guide. -
South Carolina Interactive Geography Lesson for Elementary Teachers (SCIGLET):
Designed for use in the third grade classroom, we will demonstrate teaching strategies and lessons using our SCIGLET CD-ROM. -
South Carolina Atlas:
Designed for use in SC geography, science and history classrooms, we will model teaching strategies and lessons using our South Carolina atlas. Atlas classroom packs (30 count) are available for purchase here. -
SC MAPS:
Designed for use in SC geography, science and history classrooms, the SC MAPS program utilizes aerial imagery and topographic maps for a series of case sites across the state. We will model teaching strategies and lessons from this curriculum. SC MAPS materials are available for purchase here.
Workshops can be scheduled for after-school, half-day, or full day. Full day workshops normally include content lessons by a USC professor. If you are interested in scheduling a free workshop for your school or school district, please call 1-888-895-2023 or 803-777-4973. We look forward to hearing from you.
